The Story

Sandalwood: Santalum album (L.)

Why sandalwood? Sandalwood has a long history of both religious and ritual use in India, and has been used for centuries as a perfume. Famous for its long lasting heavy, sweet, and woody aroma, sandalwood essential oil is often used in cosmetics, candles, and soaps for its cleansing qualities and popular scent. Sandalwood can also promote radiant and healthy skin.

Quality Assured: Sandalwood S. album essential oil is typically sourced from wild trees, but due to overharvesting and very little organized replanting, S. album is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. As a result, the Apothecary Shoppe only sources sandalwood from a sustainable sandalwood plantation in northern AustraliaIt’s important to us that we exclusively source from distillers and suppliers who utilize ethical and sustainable farming practices. Additionally, our expert aromatherapists here at the Apothecary Shoppe personally assess all of our oils—using touch, taste, smell, and lab analyses—to ensure that your essential oil is suitable for use and entirely free of adulterants.
