The Story

Oatstraw: Avena sativa (L.)

Why oatstraw? Oats have long been used for their versatile qualities. Taken orally, oatstraw can support a healthy, balanced mood and promote peace and calm. Topically, oatstraw can provide nourishing and rejuvenating effects to the hair and skin.

Quality Assured: Our organic oatstraw is Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth and sourced from the U.S.A. without the use of genetic engineering, artificial fertilizers, or pesticides. Our experts here at the Apothecary Shoppe personally evaluate every herb through taste, touch, and smell to assure that you are receiving the best botanicals suitable for clinical use.

How to Use

Wellness Support: Oatstraw is commonly added to homemade bath products, lotions, and soaps to support smooth and restored skin. In folk medicine, oatstraw tea is often used to promote a healthy respiratory system, including comforting a scratchy throat from coughing. High in silica––known as the magnetic mineral––oatstraw can add a gorgeous shine to your hair, skin, and nails.

Oatstraw Avena sativa: 1 ounce

Filtered water: 1 pint

Place the water into a pot made from a non-reactive material (such as stainless or enamel). Do not use aluminum. Cut or crush the oatstraw add it to water in the pot. Do not cut or crush in advance, as vital constituents can be lost. Turn on the heat to medium. Simmer your decoction with the lid off until the volume of water is reduced by one quarter, so three-quarters of a pint remains––about 20 minutes. Cool and strain.

Add to iced herbal tea and apple juice for a delicious, nourishing summer drink packed with the magnetic mineral silica.
