The Story

Fennel Seed: Foeniculum vulgare (Mill.)

Why Fennel Seed? References to the use of fennel date back to Greek and Roman writings, and fennel has been a staple of natural medicine throughout Europe and China. Fennel seeds have been used in culinary preparations to add a licorice-like flavor to bread, candies, pickles, as well as liqueurs and other beverages.

Quality Assured: Our certified organic fennel seed is sustainably sourced from Egypt. This herb is Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth and grown without the use of genetic engineering, artificial fertilizers, or pesticides. Our experts here at the Apothecary Shoppe personally evaluate every herb through taste, touch, and smell to assure that you are receiving the best botanicals suitable for clinical use.

How to Use

Wellness Support: Traditionally, fennel has been used to soothe the stomach, support digestion, and promote healthy lactation in mothers. It can also be made into a hot infusion to support a calm and contented mood.

Cautions and Contraindications: The Apothecary Shoppe fennel seed is known as "bitter" fennel, which contains more of the compound estragole than its counterpart, "sweet fennel" or Foeniculum vulgare var. dulce. However, at recommended doses, the crushed seed of bitter fennel can still be used in tea and in oral preparations.
