Lemon: Citrus limonum (Risso)
Why lemon? A well-known summery citrus, the cleansing qualities of lemon essential oil are ideal for skin care and uplifting DIY cleaning products. A strong and stimulating fruity aroma, lemon aromatherapy essential oil contains a lingering note that helps to increase the lasting quality of its fragrance. This is why lemon essential oil is perfect for mixing into homemade cleaning products and soaps.
Quality Assured: Our organic lemon essential oil is responsibly sourced from South Africa. The essential oil is cold pressed from the outer rind of the lemon; this is preferred for therapeutic purposes. Every batch of oil is Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth and produced without the use of genetic engineering, artificial fertilizers, or pesticides. Additionally, our expert aromatherapists here at the Apothecary Shoppe personally assess all of our oils—using touch, taste, smell, and lab analyses—to ensure that your essential oil is suitable for use and entirely free of adulterants.
Independent third-party lab reports including GC/MS and pesticide testing results are available upon request. Please send a request to apothecary@achs.edu and include the essential oil Latin name and lot number; results include a comparative analysis with ISO and the Pharmacopeia when available.

Benefits: Lemon aromatherapy essential oil contains cleansing qualities and is perfect for use in homemade cleansers, soap products, and cosmetics.
Regulatory Status: Lemon essential oil is listed on the FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) list.
How to Store Your Oil: Keep your essential oils stored in a cool dark place. Lemon (and all citrus oils), pine, and juniper should all be stored in the fridge to prevent oxidation. If an oil spoils from heat and oxidizes, it can cause skin irritation.
Oils That Blend Well With Lemon: Lemon oil’s refreshing aroma blends well with other citrus oils. When blended with citronella Cymbopogon nardus and lemongrass Cymbopogon flexuosum, it is used as a substitute for verbena Verbena officinalis. Lemon essential oil also blends well with
