Spikenard: Nardostachys jatamansi
Why spikenard? In antiquity, spikenard was highly prized for its root. Richly aromatic, the aromatherapy essential oil has warm and spicy undertones, wonderful in earthy perfume blends. Many people also find the complex aroma creates a soothing and relaxing atmosphere.
Quality Assured: The spikenard aromatherapy essential oil is responsibly sourced from Nepal, and CITIES certified. Every batch of oil is produced without the use of genetic engineering, artificial fertilizers, or pesticides. The essential oil is steam distilled from the rhizome and roots. Additionally, our expert aromatherapists here at the Apothecary Shoppe personally assess all of our oils—using touch, taste, smell, and lab analyses—to ensure that your essential oil is suitable for use and entirely free of adulterants.
Benefits: Spikenard has soothing and calming qualities, and is an ideal addition to your “wind-down” essential oil blend.
Regulatory Status: Spikenard essential oil is not listed on the FDA Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) list.
Oils That Blend Well With Spikenard: Spikenard aromatherapy essential oil has a valerian-like aroma, with a heavy base note lingering quality. It can last on a perfume blotter for more than two weeks, and the dry-out note is a musky but smooth, powdery, and enticing patchouli-like aroma. Try blending spikenard with:
- Cinnamon Cinnamomum zeylanicum
- citrus oils
- clary sage Salvia sclarea
- ginger Zingiber officinale
