Eleuthero can be used in your herbal apothecary for a variety of ailments. When taken orally, eleuthero may be a helpful appetite trigger and has properties that assist a healthy body increase resistance to environmental stress and improve overall vitality.

How to Use

Wellness Support: Eleuthero root when taken orally supports blood pressure levels already in the normal range, invigorated energy, and has the potential to increase healthy athletic performance.

Cautions and Contraindications: Eleuthero is contraindicated for use with high blood pressure. Eleuthero can cause palpitations, tachycardia, and hypertension. It should be used with caution with patients who have known cardiovascular disorders (e.g., atherosclerotic or rheumatic heart disease). It can also cause headache and pericardial pain in patients with rheumatic heart disease.

Women with hormone-sensitive conditions should also avoid use. Eleuthero might have estrogenic effects. Some of these conditions include: Breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids.

In addition, eleuthero might worsen hypertension, myocardial infarction, and psychiatric conditions like hysteria, mania, and schizophrenia.

There is insufficient information about use during pregnancy and while breast- feeding; avoid use.

Formula:

ELEUTHERO TEA:

Eleuthero Eleutherococcus senticosus: 1 teaspoon

Filtered water: 1 cup

Place your herbs into a ceramic or glass teapot. 
Bring the water to a boil. Do not use an aluminum pot. Turn off the heat and pour the water over the herb.

Cover the pot and let steep for five to 10 minutes. 
Strain the tea in a non-aluminum strainer and then drink. Use immediately. Do not store.

Honey, lemon, or milk can be added, although milk tends to mask the delicate flavors. Do not use honey with infants younger than one year old as there have been reports of botulism spores in honey and this can be fatal in infants.
