Sweet Orange: Citrus sinensis
Crop: Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth
Producing organ: Peel
Origin: USA
Production method: There are two primary forms of production: cold expression, either by hand or machine, of the ripe or almost ripe outer peel; or steam distillation of the fresh ripe or almost ripe outer peel. Orange essential oil is produced from the peel left after the orange juice is extracted.
Wellness Support: Sweet orange aromatherapy essential oil helps to support emotional well-being. It also aids in maintaining healthy skin and digestive health.
Perfumery: Sweet orange has a pleasant sweet, fresh, and fruity scent. It is used extensively in soaps and floral perfumes and works well in a blend at about a 5% concentration. It evaporates quickly and does not store well, so blend in small quantities.
Oils That Blend Well With Sweet Orange: Sweet orange oil's fresh aroma blends well with basil, cinnamon, clary sage, clove, lavender, neroli, lemon, and nutmeg.
Cautions and Contraindications: Avoid the sun for at least 12 hours after using sweet orange directly on the skin as it can have a photosensitizing effect. It is generally non-sensitizing, although limonene can cause reactions so a skin patch test is recommended.
