Crop: Fresh Bay
Production method: Steam distilled. Bay oil is steam distilled from fresh bay leaves.
Main therapeutic constituents: 1,8-cineole, linalol, geraniol.
Wellness Support: Bay aromatherapy essential oil has demonstrated effective antibacterial properties. It is helpful for indigestion and appetite stimulation. Bay also is helpful in assisting with loss of memory.*
Perfumery: Bay has a sweet, pleasant, and slightly spicy fragrance.
Oils That Blend Well With Bay: Bay oil’s warm aroma blends well with bergamot, black pepper, clary sage, cypress, frankincense, juniper, lavender, neroli, nutmeg, orange, petitgrain, pine, rosemary, and vetiver.
Cautions and Contraindications: Bay’s toxic rating is moderate and a skin patch test is required. The toxic constituents are methyl eugenol and phellandrene. Bay should not be administered during pregnancy and breast feeding. Externally it may cause skin sensitivity.
Formulas:
LINIMENT
Peanut oil: 1-cup
Bay Laurus nobilis oil: 30-drops
Nutmeg Myristica fragrans oil: 15-drops
Black pepper Piper nigrum oil: 9-drops
Blend all oils together. Peanut oil can be replaced by another vegetable oil, such as sweet almond or grapeseed. However, peanut oil is preferred as it has a traditional reputation for effectively reducing the pain of arthritis and rheumatism.
FIBROMYALGIA BLEND
Chamomile Matricaria recutita (German) oil: 2-drops
Cajuput Melaleuca leucadendron var. cajuputi oil: 2-drops
Black pepper Piper nigrum oil: 2-drops
Bay Laurus nobilis oil: 2-drops
Clove Syzygium aromaticum bud oil: 2-drops
Base oil of your choice: 1-oz
Blend with oil and massage to affected area, or use 5-10-drops in the bath.
